Promising youngster Prithvi Shaw has successfully passed his fitness test and all set to join India A squad in New Zealand soon. Shaw had injured his shoulder while diving to save an overthrow during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy game against Karnataka at the MCA ground in BKC and since then he has been out of the action.

“He cleared the mandatory yo-yo test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Tuesday morning. He should be flying on the 16th or 17th of January to join the India A side in New Zealand,” a source informed TOI.

Although he missed the two warm-up games so far, Prithvi Shaw will take place in the first One Day game between India A and New Zealand A on January 22. Moreover, one of the reasons that the selectors still did not announce the Test team was that they were waiting on his fitness. In short, it can be said that Prithvi Shaw will be selected in India’s Test team as the third opener.

In fact, the reason for them not selecting the ODI squad yet for the three games against New Zealand is the all-rounder Hardik Pandya who recently failed the fitness test. He has just recovered from a lower back injury and the selectors also wanted to look at the on-going ODI series against Australia at home before choosing the squad for the New Zealand games.

“We have a few issues to sort out. The teams for the ODIs and Tests in New Zealand will be picked after the ODI series in India,” a source informed.
