Red for Ruth: Everything about the Red Lord’s Test

Players from India and England were seen wearing the Red caps during the second day of the Lord’s Test. This occurs during Lord’s Test every summer in the memory of Ruth Strauss – wife of former England skipper Sir Andrew Strauss.

Strauss formed the Ruth Strauss Foundation in memory of his deceased wife Ruth Strauss, who passed away in 2018 fighting lung cancer. Since Ashes 2019, Lord’s Test is associated with it and help to raise the charitable fund for the foundation.

Similarly, the Sydney Test of every summer in Australia is associated with Jane McGrath foundation, who was the wife of former Australian cricket Glenn McGrath. She passed away after fighting breast cancer.

Strauss set up the foundation on his wife’s name which ‘aids families facing the death of a parent and drives the need for more research into non-smoking lung cancer.’

The second day of the Lord’s Test is celebrated as ‘Red for Ruth’ day. Along with Players, match officials and broadcasters and presenters wear the red attire.

The caps worn by players will go up in auction along with several other things associated with the match.

Earlier, Indian legendary batsman, Sachin Tendulkar signed 250 photographs that will also be held in the auction and will raise the fund for the Ruth Strauss Foundation.

On match’s front, India dominated the proceedings of the first day. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma gave India a solid start of 126 runs before James Anderson removed Rohit and Pujara in quick succession. Indian skipper Virat Kohli looked good during his 42 runs but got out to Ollie Robinson before the stumps of day one.

Meanwhile, Rahul notched up his sixth Test century and led the Indian batting from the front. He got out on the second ball of day two and Ajinkya Rahane followed him in the pavilion soon as well. Rishabh Pant added some crucial runs before throwing his wicket away.

Currently, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma are fighting in the middle with India’s score being 362/7.
