Team India started the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka as clear favorites, but the visiting bowlers gave a shocking surprise to the Indian batsmen in the 1st ODI in Dharam sals. India was without their regular captain Virat Kohli, which gave Rohit Sharma the opportunity to make his captaincy debut.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka chooses to bowl first at Dharamshala’s picturesque stadium. Unexpectedly, India’s batting order was collapsed like a stack of dominos as Sri Lankan seamers were enjoying their outing in the middle. It all started with both openers given out after 2 consecutive successful reviews from the Lankan skipper, Thisara Perera.

Dinesh Karthik, debutant Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, all-rounder Hardik Pandya didn’t took very long to come back to the pavilion as the men in blue were struggling at 29/7 in 16.4 overs. Only MS Dhoni showed some resistant with the bat and built a steady partnership with Kuldeep Yadav. Both took from there to 70 runs on the board fr the 8th wicket and Yadav scored a crucial 19.

Dhoni started smashing the ball all over teh park as Kuldeep’s dismissal as only tail-enders were left and surpassed the 50-run mark. His knock of 65 runs for many years only for his stubbornness. However, Dhoni finally was dismissed while trying to go for a six as Indian innings concluded at 112/10 (38.2).

Suranga Lakmal was the pick of the bowlers as he bowled his all 10 overs straight away to register figures of 10-4-13-4. Nuwan Pradeep helped him from the other end and grabbed 2 wickets.

When Sri Lanka came to chase the meager total of 113, they suffered early dismissals of MD Gunathilaka and Lahiru Thirimane as they were down to 19/2. After that, Angelo Mathews and Upul Tharanga stitched a partnership of 46 runs as the latter nicked one to Shikhar Dhawan at the score of 65.

However, on the first ball of the 10th over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, Tharanga poked on straight to the covers but unfortunately, it was a no-ball from Bumrah. The chase was completed in the 21st over with a boundary.

Brief scores: Sri Lanka 114 for 3 (Tharanga 49) defeated India 112 (Dhoni 65, Lakmal 4-13) by 7 wickets
