Robin Uthappa Excited To Play With Steve Smith In IPL 2020

The veteran Indian batsman Robin Uthappa, who will now be playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020 as he got transferred from Kolkata Knight Riders. Ahead of IPL 2020, he had expressed the urge of making a comeback to Team India as he has complete confidence in himself that if he manages to have a good season with his new franchise in this edition of the tournament, it will help him earn him the India cap.

But what get him really excited about IPL 2020 is the opportunity to play with Australia’s Steve Smith, again. The two had played together for the Pune Warriors India between 2011 and 2013, but Uthappa reckons that now Smith has not reached a different level.

In a video for BCCI, Uthappa was heard saying, “I have played with Steve [Smith] back in Pune Warriors India from 2011 to 13. But having seen the growth that he has made from that time, I am truly looking forward to interacting with him and learning from him in the time that we will be playing together this year.”

The batsman is also extremely glad that the IPL 2020 is going to take place and it’ll be an ‘escape’ for people in such times.

Uthappa elaborated, “The IPL will be an escape for the people. Indians love cricket, and this will be a relief for them. In that sense, this will be a big IPL.”

Asked about what he thinks of the chances that his new franchise will manage to achieve similar success as they did in the inaugural edition in 2008 under Shane Warne.

Replying to the same, Robin Uthappa said, “As is any other team’s desire and intention, our desire as well is to go there and compete as well as we can, and hopefully win the tournament. So, we want to make it special, and I think winning it will make it extremely special.”
