During the season opener of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League, Rohit Sharma was out cheaply amidst sky-high expectations. In a high-intensity clash, the captain of Mumbai Indians was expected to play a enthralling innings in front of his home crowd.

Earlier, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of Chennai Super Kings, had won the toss and chose to field. Indians outplayed the opposition by sending in Rohit Sharma top open the innings alongside Evin Lewis. Most of the people were of the opinion that wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan would face the new ball.

Against Deepak Chahar, Sharma faced the first ball of the IPL 11. To the surprise of many fans, Chahar beat Sharma three times on the first three deliveries. Sharma finally made connection with the ball on the fourth delivery, scoring a not-so-convincing boundary over the cover fielder. Facing all the balls of the next over bowled by Shane Watson, he scored a couple of runs. Hence, being part of a slow start.

Rohit Sharma fell cheaply against CSK.

Mumbai Indians lost Evin Lewis (0) on the first delivery of the third over. The onus had automatically shifted more on the captain’s head now. In the following over, Sharma broke the shackles as he hit Watson for a six over extra cover.

However, on the penultimate delivery of the same over, Sharma had to walk back to the pavilion. In the middle of a sluggish innings, Sharma tried to go for another one, ending up skying a Watson delivery to Ambati Rayudu, who did not make any mistake. Rohit Sharma ended up scoring 15 (18) with the help of one four and one six.
