New Zealand’s experienced batsman Ross Taylor has written his name in history as he became the first cricketer to play 100 international matches in all three formats of the game. However, New Zealand cricket fraternity made sure the moment becomes memorable for the batsman as they took up a unique gesture. However, he was presented with a hundred different wine bottles, one for each Test which he has played so far. When he was asked what he planned to do with those, Ross Taylor said he needed some help drinking his way through them as well.

The veteran has already played 100 T20I game against India on February and has already featured in 231 ODIs for BlackCaps so far. He has scored 8,570 runs in the ODIs with an average of 48.69 while he smashed 1,909 runs in the T20 format of the game. In the longest format of the game, he has amassed 7,174 runs with an average of 46.28 which included 19 tons and 33 fifties.

“Really excited about the occasion. It’s not a great sign when you wake up in the morning and there’s some rain around. Ian Smith said a few words at an event last night, and it was very nice for the team and the family to experience something they might never do again. I’ll need some help drinking (the hundred bottles of wine), but they can be stored for a while,” he said.

“It keeps the tradition from Fleming, Brendon (McCullum) and Daniel Vettori who all played over a hundred Tests each and hopefully we can celebrate this one with a win,” replied Ross Taylor.

Besides Taylor, McCullum, Stephen Fleming and Daniel Vettori have already played 101, 111, and 112 Tests respectively for New Zealand in their career. As far as the game is concerned, New Zealand have the upper hand in the ongoing game at Basin Reserve. On the tough pitch, India’s top-order dismantled once again with debutant Kyle Jamieson taking the scalps. Earlier, day one was called off due to bad weather. India will resume from their overnight score of 122 for five on Saturday as well.
