During the 16th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 1992 being played between India and Pakistan at Sydney, Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev stitched a crucial 60-run partnership for the sixth wicket. The partnership was instrumental in India posting a handsome total and eventually winning the match by 43 runs.

Mohammad Azharuddin, the then India captain, had won the toss and elected to bat first. India lost wickets at regular intervals only to be reeling at 5-148 at one stage. This was when Tendulkar and Dev joined hands to provide India with a rescue act. India ended up scoring 216-7 in 50 overs.

Tendulkar scored 54* (62) with the help of three fours. Dev scored 35 (26) with the help of two fours and a six.

On the back of Indian fast bowlers in Dev, Manoj Prabhakar and Javagal Srinath, India defended the total successfully. The trio picked up a couple of wickets each without conceding many runs.
