Sachin Tendulkar nominated for Laureus Sporting Moment Award

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has recently been shortlisted as one of the 20 contenders for the greatest Laureus Sporting Moment 2000-2020 Award. The moment is the title Carried On the Shoulders Of A Nation which gives an example to the Indian cricket team’s 2011 World Cup win in India. It was his first World Cup title win in 2011 after playing in five editions previously during his international career.

He was an important part of the Indian team that won the World Cup at home. After the win, he was carried on the shoulders of his teammates and he made a lap of honour as he lived his dream of lifting the World Cup. The win came after a long wait of 28 years to win the World Cup. India have not won the title in between these years.

While talking about the award, Laureus has launched the Laureus Sporting Moment 2000-2020 public vote, which gives all the fans the opportunity to choose their favourites as one of the winners of the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards. Laureus World Sports Awards will give the honour to the greatest sporting triumphs of 2019 on 17th February in Berlin.

The awards will also celebrate the power of sport which helps in transforming the lives of young people across the globe. However, the campaign has shortlisted 20 sporting stories from the last 20 years that have left their mark on the world of sport. Everyone can vote for their favourite moment until February 16 which started on January 10.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar does not need any kind of introduction. His feats and achievements speak for him and are well known to all the cricket fans. The former India batsman holds almost every batting record as well. He is the only player to have scored 100 international centuries and also has the record for the most centuries in both Test matches (51) and One Day Internationals (49) in his name.

He had played 198 Tests where he scored a record 15,921 runs which came at an average of 53.86. In ODIs, he amassed a record 18,426 runs and he is also the first male batsman to score an ODI double century. Sachin Tendulkar played for India for almost 25 years and hung up his boots in 2013.
