Team India is currently in Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series where a few new faces have been named as well. They have been brought into the side as many of their regular members like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and others are in England for the Test series. Meanwhile, there will be a tough competition not only for the opening spots but also for the keeper’s slot as well as they have Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan in their kitty.

For the opening slot, Team India has picked four regular openers in Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad. While the coach for this series, Rahul Dravid has admitted that every player might not get the chance to play, former India batsman Ajay Jadeja feels that the choice of the openers will depend on what the management wants, and also what they want in the future as well. Since everyone will try to do their best considering the T20 World Cup in mind which will take place later this year.

“These players are the future of Indian team. Here, it is not the question of captain’s choice, but how the management looks at the tour. It all depends on the guys who run the team. The selectors and Dravid will make the call. It is a tough decision to make between all players, but my choice is Padikkal,” said the veteran during a media interaction.

On the other hand, for the keeper’s position, there are two players in the team — Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. Both o them have been in good form as well. But the former India player turned renowned commentator feels the latter one will have the upperhand as well as he has shown more consistency than Sanju Samson.

“Ishan Kishan is my keep’s choice, purely on basis of batting. Keeping is not that important in limited-overs cricket. There is no match to Smason when he gets going, but what we are looking at is consistency, and Kishan picks himself ahead of Samson on that ground,” Sanjay Manjrekar said.
