The T20 World Cup 2021 will begin on October 17 while the Super 12 stage will commence from October 23. India will name the final squad for the tournament by October 15. Samson can replace any player who is struggling with niggles or poor form.

He was in good form with the bat during the second leg of the IPL 2021 in the UAE. He scored 207 runs in seven matches where his top score was 82 and followed by 70 not out. He being a wicketkeeper is an added bonus for his chances.

The performance of players like Hardik Pandya and Rahul Chahar during the UAE leg of the IPL has not been up to the mark. Samson being asked to remain put in UAE till further notice, even while his team was knocked out of the IPL on October 7, seems to be the basis of the speculation.

In the Covid pandemic era, the bio-bubble atmosphere is the order of the day and since the present edition of the IPL is operating in that mode, Samson and his fans will be on tenterhooks till October 15, when the final T20 World Cup squad is unveiled.

Samson played for India on the tour of Sri Lanka where three ODIs and three T20Is were played between the two teams.
