As per the report, Sean Williams, the Test Captain of Zimbabwe has withdrawn his retirement letter, which he had sent to the board ahead of the white ball series against Ireland. The veteran left-hand batsman will continue to play for Zimbabwe until his central contract completes, which ends within eight months as well.

According to the Sunday Times report, Sean Williams has withdrawn his retirement letter which he had forwarded to the Zimbabwe Cricket prior to the white-ball series against Ireland. Earlier, Williams shared that he will quit international cricket after making himself available for the limited-overs series against Ireland. Unfortunately, the experienced batsman failed to get a place in the playing XI for ZImbabwe in the first two games in the ongoing T20I series against Ireland as well.

Prior to his retirement decision, he also confessed that he is not happy with head coach Lalchand Rajput. He again shared that the environment created by the coach in the team isn’t good enough and he cannot continue playing with this as well. Notably, he has represented the country in 14 Tests, 136 ODIs, and 47 T20Is so far as well.

‘I can’t see a way forward under coach [Lalchand] Rajput. The environment he has created in the team is bad. There is too much talking and backbiting which creates mistrust”, Sean Williams had said ahead of his retirement decision.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe head coach, Lalcahnd Rajput, has faced a tough time since his appointment in 2018. Under his guidance, the team has shown a rather forgettable record in white-ball cricket as they have won just four ODIs and eight T20Is out of 29 matches in both formats respectively as well.

Alongside the head coach, other staff members – Stuart Matsikenyeri, Douglas Hondo, and Shepherd Makunura are also expected to come under the scanner because of the ongoing issues in the Zimbabwe cricket team. In the ongoing five-match T20I series, Zimbabwe could manage to win the first match by three runs, before Ireland registered a convincing win in the second game by seven wickets to level the series as well. Sean Williams didn’t play in any of the two games a swell.
