Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly backs Test cricket as the ultimate format of cricket, where every player wants to do well.
Ganguly’s views came after the conclusion of the inaugural World Test Championship Final between India and New Zealand, which was dubbed as “The Ultimate Test”. Several players and pundits called Test cricket to be the best format of the game in the buildup to the final and Ganguly wasn’t behind in giving his vote to Test cricket as well.

“When we started playing cricket in our childhood, Test cricket was the ultimate cricket format and I think it still is the ultimate format. And that is why it is called Test cricket.
“I feel if a player wants to be successful and leave his/ her mark on the game, then Test cricket is the biggest platform one can get,” Ganguly told Star Sports.
“People will remember those players forever, who play well and make runs in Test matches. If you see all the biggest names in cricket all the greats in the past 40-50 years; they’ve all had successful Test records,” said Ganguly.

20th June marked the 25th anniversary of Ganguly’s famous Test debut at Lord’s. He along with Rahul Dravid made their Test debut against England in 1996 at Lord’s and celebrated a long and successful career while playing for India.
In the recently concluded WTC Final, New Zealand came on top to win the game by eight wickets. Kane Williamson remained calm and composed during a tricky chase of 139 and scored an unbeaten fifty to steer his team home.
By winning the title, New Zealand ended a two-decade-long wait to lift an ICC trophy. Earlier, they defeated India in the final of ICC Knockout Cup (now Champions Trophy) to win their first major global title.
