Team India Reaches Sri Lanka, Shikhar Dhawan Shares Selfie From Flight

Shikhar Dhawan is going to lead Team India in a white-ball series in Sri Lanka, where they will play three One-Day Internationals and as many T20Is. After completing the mandatory quarantine period in Mumbai, the Indian contingent flew for Sri Lanka on Monday and reached. Shikhar Dhawan shared a selfie with teammates from the flight.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named a second-string team for this tour after India’s eight regular players were England-bound to play in the World Test Championship Final and five Test matches against England from August.

Dhawan was named the captain while Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named his deputy. Several other young players were also included in the squad including pacer Chetan Sakariya, Devdutt Padikkal, Krishnappa Gowtham among several others.

The newly-appointed captain shared a glimpse from the plane to Sri Lanka on his Instagram account.

The team reached safely to Lankan shores on Monday and Team India’s official Instagram account shared an image after landing.

Rahul Dravid will be coaching the team on this tour and looked very excited to work with the national team for the first time. Dravid wants the youngsters to do well on this tour so that they can knock on the door for the selection in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will take place in the UAE later this year.

Speaking before leaving for Sri Lanka, Dhawan revealed his thoughts on leading the side.

“So, it is a great honour for me to be the captain of the Indian team. I am looking forward to it, I have played under Rahul Dravid’s coaching once, I was the captain of India A at that time, we had played against Bangladesh. I feel we guys think together, we are looking forward to the series, we will be looking to build positive things and there should be a very happy environment in which boys can express themselves and we get the best out of them,” he said.
