The match ball with which New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel managed to ink his name in history books by taking all the 10 wickets in an innings against India in the recent Test match in Mumbai will get “pride of the place” at the upcoming MCA museum at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Ajaz Patel became the third bowler in the history of Test cricket Test history after Jim Laker (1956) and Anil Kumble (1999) to pick all 10 wickets in an innings during the second match against India earlier this month.

Patel, who was born in Mumbai before his family shifted to New Zealand, became the first bowler to achieve the feat in his place of birth. Patel ended the match with 14 wickets, the best performance by a visiting bowler in India, but still ended up on the losing side as India crushed New Zealand by 372 runs to clinch the 2-Test series at the iconic stadium.

The 33-year-old graciously gave the match ball to the Mumbai Cricket Association, who confirmed that it would duly be the “pride of the place” at their museum.

Ajaz Patel bowled a brilliant spell in Mumbai

As per the quotes in PTI, MCA Presdient Vijay Patil said,  “What he (Ajaz Patel) achieved at the Wankhede stadium was something completely phenomenal. And the fact that he did at our iconic (Wankhede) stadium just gives us another memory to savour from his historic ground. And the fact that he traces his roots back to Mumbai made it extra special for us.”
