Twitterati Surprised As Virat Kohli Is Still Leading Team India In All Formats

Team India witnessed a surprising exit from the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2019 as they lost the semi-final against New Zealand by just 18 runs which chasing a meager total of 240 runs. Ever since the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli has been blamed for the loss and the fans are churning out every mistake he has done in the tournament.

 Kohli was not only been criticized for his bad decisions like sending MS Dhoni ahead of players like Dinesh Karthik but also for his lapse of judgment while selecting the playing XI for the semifinal, especially not allowing Mohammed Shami (one of India’s most successful bowlers at WC 2019) to include in the playing XI.

Under such an atmosphere, the fans were expecting Rohit Sharma to lead the ODI and T20 squads. His brilliant form during the World Cup gave the testimony of his capability of working on an optimal level despite being under pressure of limited-overs cricket. His emotional involvement when players like Ravindra Jadeja scored a fifty spoke a thousand words about his familial behavior towards his teammates.

And most importantly, Sharma has always done a phenomenal job in Kohli’s absence in the past couple of years as a deputy skipper. In essence, after the World Cup upset, Sharma made for a worthy candidate to become the next true captain of the Men in Blue.

In fact, talks of a split captaincy were making the rounds in the BCCI when an official revealed: “This would be the right time for Rohit to take over the mantle of the captaincy in the 50-over format. There has been immense support to the present captain and the management and it is time to plan ahead for the next World Cup and for that the existing ideas and plans need a fresh look. We all know some areas need a relook. Rohit would be the right man for the job.”

However, on Sunday, when the final squads for the full series with the West Indies were announced, all the build-up went down the drain as the Indian cricket board decided to let Kohli lead the team in all formats of the game.
