Indian skipper Virat Kohli has made himself available for the upcoming Windies tour as a report in India Today has suggested that will travel with the team for the complete duration of the tour. Earlier, it was reported that Virat will take rest from the tour.
Kohli could have taken rest had India won the World Cup or at least reached the final, but his team failed to chase down the total of 240 in the semi-final, and hence, they got knocked out of the tournament from the semi-final stage. Since then, there were rumors that both Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah might take rest.
While Virat decided to visit the Caribbean islands, Jasprit Bumrah might get rested for the limited-overs series. India has been following the policy of giving ample rest to their pacers and Bumrah has been playing non-stop cricket since the month of March. He will get some rest for ODI and T20Is while the right-arm pacer could make a comeback for Tests.
Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane would have led the Indian team in limited-overs and Test cricket in Kohli’s absence. The national selectors will name the squad for the tour in a day or two and few surprises are expected to come out of the meeting.
As per a report in TOI, MS Dhoni will also be traveling with the team. Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav might find it difficult to retain their place in the team.
India will play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests on the tour. The first two T20Is will be played in Florida before the action will move to the Caribbean islands. The two Test matches on the tour will be played in Antigua and Jamaica respectively.
