Former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag was seen showering praises at the Indian skipper Virat Kohli for emulzating a quality of India legend Sachin Tendulkar, which is never left the chase mid-way. Kohli, who had missed out on scoring runs in the last few matches, on Sunday ensured that he gets India over the line during their chase of 165 against England in the 2nd T20I.

Sehwag went on to say that other players in the team such as Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan should learn this art from the India skipper. During a chat on Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag said, “When it’s Virat Kohli’s day, he ensures he finishes the match and is right there till the end, irrespective of the format he is batting in. Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan should learn from Kohli, that when it’s your day, just don’t get out. That’s exactly what Tendulkar used to do.”

Former Indian opener added that Sachin would tell him the same thing when the two would bat together for India.

Explaining the same, Sehwag said, “He (Sachin) used to tell me ‘if today is a good day for you, then play as long as you can, remain not out and score runs’ because what kind of day you have tomorrow, whether you’ll score runs, is not known. But today you know the way you’re playing, the ball is appearing like a football.”

Sehwag further said that ideally, Pant should’ve stayed in the middle to finished the game off along with Kohli as he started very well. Pant played a fiery knock of 26 off 13 balls with a couple of fours and as many sixes before going for a big hit and getting caught at long-on.

Elaborating the same, Virender Sehwag said, “So make the most of it and stay not out because it’s important. This holds true for both Pant and Kishan, more so for Pant because when he came out to bat, he had hit a six and a four in that over. Had he rotated the strike, waited for the bad balls, the match could have been over sooner.”
