In the ongoing opening game of the 5-match Test series between India and England in Nottingham, the visiting team has dominated the proceedings so far. India’s fast bowling attack managed to take wickets at consistent intervals as the hosts experienced a batting collapse and eventually got bundled out for 183 runs. The Former Indian cricketer, VVS Laxman showered praises on the Indian team  as he asserted that the side has rectified their mistakes from the WTC.

The Indian bowling line-up was immensely criticised for the disappointing display in the finals of the WTC. But the team seemed to have learned from their mistakes as since the beginning of Day one the pacers looked in complete control of the game with the ball. VVS Laxman thus pointed that the team has been able to turn their fortunes by working on themselves in every possible way and by making good use of the bowling friendly English conditions.

As per the quotes in ESPNCricinfo, VVS Laxman said, “It was a fantastic effort from India, right from the first over Bumrah bowled. The mistakes that were made in the World Test Championships final, I think they have rectified it and the only way to do so was by going to the nets, training, working on the areas of concern.”

The premier Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless in the WTC final and that became the reason behind his criticism. But on Day 1 of the Nottingham Test, he scalped the wicket of the opener Rory Burns on the fifth delivery and further ended up picking four wickets. Apart from him, Mohammed Shami too looked lethal with the ball since the beginning and picked three wickets. VVS Laxman heaped praises on both of them and highlighted the need for the bowlers to be at their best.

Explaining the same, VVS Laxman said, “Bumrah and Shami bowled the right lengths as one has to be effective in English conditions. To win a Test series, a team needs to have two or three bowlers in top form and what we saw on Day 1 from Bumrah and Shami is top rhythm.”

India’s fast bowlers made the most of the conditions on the first day as they concentrated on bowling disciplined line and lengths. This is a positive sign for the side and a healthy lead now might make them fancy their chances to dominate the first Test further.
