The ongoing T20I series between India and South Africa have already set the benchmarks high when it comes to fielding. After the washed-out 1st T20I in Dharamsala, the 2nd T20I in Mohali witnessed some breathtaking catches taken by both the teams. Three catches that were the picks of the lot during the match including the diving effort of Virat Kohli, David Miller’s one-handed stunner and Ravindra Jadeja took a caught and bowled.

All-rounder Jadeja and Team India’s fielding coach R Sridhar took some time out to review the three phenomenal catches from the 2nd T20I match. While reviewing the catch taken by Kohli to dismiss his South African counterpart, Quinton de Kock, Jadeja said Kohli anticipated well and added that backward-running catches are always a tough task as it is extremely hard to predict the trajectory of the ball.’

Whereas, for Miller’s catch — which was arguably the catch of the match, to send back Shikhar Dhawan, Jadeja said the grab was phenomenal from Miller as the ball was coming fast and flat. He added that the low floodlights in Mohali make flat catches tougher as it is difficult to track the ball. Sridhar then said if Jadeja is saying a catch is difficult then it is really very very difficult.

While talking about his own catch to dismiss Rassie van der Dussen, the all-rounder said he tries to predict how and where a batsman can hit a shot which makes the process of anticipating the ball faster and easier. He added that he doesn’t tend to dive every time and rather tries to use his range of reach to get to the ball while further adding the process of visualizing a catch or fielding effort makes things easier for him.

Meanwhile, India has gained an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series. After the abandoned 1st T20I, Virat Kohli and his men won the second match by seven wickets and they would look to clean sweep the series when they take to the field at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (September 22) for the third and final match of the series. After the T20I series, India will play three Test matches against the Proteas scheduled to commence on October 2.
