On Saturday, ‘Gotham gave us Batman, Gowtham gave us batsman’, that’s what every Rajasthan Royals (RR) fan was saying as the 29-year-old Krishnappa Gowtham’s match-winning knock of 11-ball 33 took them over the line in a nail-biting game against Mumbai Indians (MI). Even the most ardent Rajasthan Royals fan present at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur must have thought at some time during the game that would lose. But it was Gowtham whose beliefs translated into a memorable win.

It was a night to remember for the Rajasthan team, as in the earlier games they haven’t had the best comeback at the Indian Premier League (IPL). But the win against the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) must have boosted their confidence to the notch where they so dearly were looking for. Currently, Royals are in the fifth spot in the IPL Points table, with a lot of games still to be played. They have won 3 and lost 3 — a record that can be bettered in days to come.

Gowtham’s performance also impressed Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who showered praise on Gowtham after the match. But the welcome the youngster got when he entered the Royals dressing room was nothing short of ecstatic. The cricketer was excited, as were all his teammates who were patting him on his back and had burst into cheers. It seemed that the youngster could not hide his emotions and joined in.
