Former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni once again gave the best testimony of his humbleness after India restricted South Africa for a meager total of 227/9 in their quota of 50 overs in their World Cup 2019 opener. It was a day that totally belonged to Rohit Sharma, who helped Indian chase down the total with almost 3 overs to spare by scoring 122*. He was later on named as player of the match for his performance as well.
After the first innings got over, while the team was going towards the dressing room, Dhoni, who was leading the pack out of the field, paused and stepped back. He stepped back to allow Rohit to lead go towards the dressing room first as he had to get ready to open the innings during the chase. This is a gesture that again proves that there is a great sense of bonding in the Indian team.
Here is the video of Dhoni pausing to allow Rohit to lead the team off-the-field:

The moment when MS Dhoni, paused, let Rohit go in first. That understanding and respect. 👏. May be he wanted openers to rush in and get more time, the game awareness. The bonding this Team India has is awesome. . . . #Dhoni #IndvSA #RohitSharma #CWC19 #TeamIndia #CricketVideos #Hitman #Rohit #MSDhoni Video Courtesy : @arunpandey0909 sir.
After receiving the award, Rohit said, “There was something in the pitch for the bowlers throughout the game, so you had to play out the overs initially and see what the ball was doing. Couldn’t play my natural game. You have to take your time. Certain shots that I like playing, I had to cut out and play close to the body, and follow the basics properly – try and leave as many balls as possible on a pitch that is doing a bit. Building partnerships were key in this chase. It was a small total, but since there was something in it for the bowlers, it was tough and we needed partnerships.”
India will now be locking horns with defending champions Australia on June 9 which is expected to be a nail-biting encounter.
