Australia have been doing pretty well in the ongoing ICC World Cup where they have sealed their berth for the semi-finals. So far they have lost only one game against India. However, their fast bowler Pat Cummins has shared that they got the confidence after winning the series against India ahead of the World cup. Before the series, they were losing a couple of games but the series against India gave the confidence that they can bounce back well. Moreover, with the return of David Warner and Steve Smith, who were earlier facing the ban for the ball tampering scandal, have joined the team which certainly boosted them.
“I think that Indian series win, probably the T20 series win, to be honest (was when I realised we could give the World Cup a shake),” Pat Cummins shared to cricket.com.au.
Speaking about the game, Pat Cummins shared that it was Maxwell’s hundred at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru which changed the scenario and the team started believing that they can beat any team anywhere.
“At Bangalore, Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) hit a hundred and we won seemingly out of nowhere. It gave us a real confidence, the best side in the world, in their own conditions. It really felt like a special group, a couple of really special wins where we felt like we could win from anywhere,” Cummins added.
For Australia, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are doing all the work as they have been providing early breakthroughs. Starc became the highest wicket-taker with 24 scalps so far in the World Cup. They will take on Faf du Plessis led South Africa in their last World Cup group league match on Saturday before heading to semi-finals.
