“We could have won both ODI and T20I series”: Nicholas Pooran

After West Indies lost the ODI series to India, Nicholas Pooran said that they could have won the ODI series decider, as well as, T20I series. However, he thinks there are better things in store for the team in the near future.

“We could have won both ODI and T20I series,” Pooran said at the post-match conference. “There are better things to come and we will get where we want to get. India is a very tough team to beat but we put up a tough fight against them. We definitely are building. India is one of the strongest teams in the world and they proved it yet again today. We came here, we showed fight,” he added.

India registered a four wickets win against the West Indies. With this win, the host won the series by 2-1. However, this is India’s tenth consecutive series win over the Windies.

Put in to bat first, West Indies posted a total of 315/5 in the allotted fifty overs. Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard’s stable knocks made sure that Windies reach a competitive total. Although Nicholas Pooran was dismissed for 89, Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten on 74. India, while chasing, got off to a steady start as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul provided with a solid start where both the openers added a 122-run stand for the first wicket.

Rohit was dismissed for 63 while KL Rahul got out at 77. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant although went very cheaply in the middle order as they scored only seven runs each before getting dismissed. However, Virat Kohli anchored the chase and scored a pivotal knock of 85 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur then ensured India’s win by four wickets and eight balls to spare. Later, they remained unbeaten on 39 and 17 respectively. Earlier, West Indies also lost the T20I series against India by 2-1 as well.
