With Team India whitewashing the Windies in the three-match T20I series, the men in blue are raring to go for the first of three ODIs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. After a clean-sweep in the shortest format, India will be the hot favorites for the ODI despite the team being in a transition state, one that won’t see a lot of MS Dhoni in it.
However, the series can also be the last international assignment for the self-proclaimed Universe Boss, Chis Gayle and he will surely love to put an end to his illustrious career on a high with the national side.
The pitch is on the slower side with a score of 250 expected to be competitive. As seen in the last T20I, wickets in hand are crucial and should make all the difference on Thursday as well. Here are some of the predictions of the game:
As seen in the World Cup, Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis will be expected to open the innings with the talented trio of Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, and Nicholas Pooran following them in the middle order. Jason Holder provides the balance with his all-round abilities along with Carlos Brathwaite and Fabian Allen, who had a decent outing in the World Cup 2019. Sheldon Cottrell will be spearheading the bowling attack and he will be getting some apt support from Oshane Thomas and Keemo Paul on Thursday.
Probable XI: Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope(WK), Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder(C), Carlos Brathwaite, Fabien Allen, Oshane Thomas, Keemo Paul, and Sheldon Cottrell.
With Shikhar Dhawan returning to the top of the order, KL Rahul will be expecting to bat at number four. This should relieve some pressure from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the batting unit. Rishabh Pant will get a certain chance to cement his position while the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Kedhar Jadhav are also in for a place in the side with Shreyas Iyer also expecting a chance as he was the only player who didn’t get a chance in the T20Is. Both or one wrist-spinners should feature while Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the bowling department followed by Mohammed Shami and Khaleel Ahmed.
Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (C), KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant(WK), Kedar Jadhav/Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Khaleel Ahmed
Fantasy XI Prediction
Rishabh Pant, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Lokesh Rahul, Virat Kohli (c), Ravindra Jadeja, Jason Holder (vc), Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, Oshane Thomas, and Sheldon Cottrell.
