Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history in the ongoing one-off U-19 Test match between India and Australia, scoring an astonishing century off just 58 balls at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Day 2. At just 13 years old, he became the fastest centurion for India in U-19 Test history, missing the overall record for the fastest century in U-19 Tests by a narrow margin.

That record is held by Moeen Ali, who achieved a 56-ball century in 2005. On October 1, during the first session, Suryavanshi showcased his batting prowess with a spectacular innings that included 14 fours and four sixes. However, he was dismissed shortly after reaching his century, run out for a remarkable 104 runs off just 62 balls, finishing with an incredible strike rate of 167.74.

Suryavanshi first gained attention last season when he became the youngest debutant in the Ranji Trophy, representing Bihar at the age of just 12. This achievement broke records previously held by legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh. So far, he has played two first-class matches, showcasing immense talent at a young age.

On Day 1, Australia was bowled out for 293 runs, with Riley Kingsell and Aidan O’Connor scoring half-centuries. For India, Samarth Nagaraj and Mohammed Enaan were the standout bowlers, each taking three wickets. Australia has faced challenges on their tour of India, having been whitewashed in the preceding Youth ODI series, and Suryavanshi’s explosive batting will likely leave a lasting impression on their squad.

While Suryavanshi was in top form, fellow opener Vihaan Malhotra also contributed with a steady 49 not out, supporting his partner effectively. Malhotra looked set for his half-century, having struck eight boundaries before lunch. India aims to build a significant first-innings lead to pressure the tourists in their second innings. The Indian team is captained by all-rounder Soham Patwardhan, while the Australians are led by wicketkeeper-batter Simon Budge.
