The undying love of a 24-year-old woman for Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis took her on a journey that few can boast of. She did not flinch at the long drive of 14 hours from her hometown of Colorado Springs to Dallas to undertake a pilgrimage to watch her hero in action in a Major League Cricket match between Texas Super Kings and Seattle Orcas.
But it was an unusual backdrop to her support, and the near-empty Grand Prairie Stadium provided for it. Her incessant chants for Stoinis echoed in the empty arena and caught the attention of a representative from the Texas Super Kings. What happened later was quite surreal in various ways that would forever be etched in her memory.

After a bit of discussion, the lady unfolded a nicely worked-out banner that had Stoinis on it. It had an excellent collage of the cricketer innovatively superimposed with the character of The Hulk, showing her immense fandom. The message on the banner read, “14 hours drive to support him tonight.”.

As she began to tell her story to the representative, a tapestry of her life opened up before him. Born in Afghanistan, she had emigrated to the United States, but the love for cricket stayed with her. The fascination with Stoinis started in her school days in 2015, just as his international career was taking off. Her admiration increased over the years; now it became a dream she loved to cherish—meeting her idol.
