16-year-old Richa Ghosh Donates Rs 1 Lakh to Fight against Coronavirus

Sixteen-year-old India player Richa Ghosh, who played for India in the Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia earlier this month, has recently donated Rs 1 lakh to the Bengal Chief Minister’s relief fund for the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic. Her father Manabendra Ghosh went to the Siliguri district magistrate Sumanta Sahay’s residence to give the cheque on Saturday, Cricket Association of Bengal shared.

“When everybody is fighting COVID-19 and the chief minister has appealed for a united battle against it, I thought of contributing a bit as a responsible citizen of the country,” Richa, who played two matches in the T20 World Cup including the final, said.

She has made her debut in the tri-series in Australia prior to the T20 World Cup where both Richa Ghosh and Shafali Verma were the two 16-year-olds who represented India final against Australia where they lost to the hosts by 85 runs on March 8. However, CAB affiliated units and officials too announced their donation through the state body.

“66 CAB match observers have pooled in Rs 1.5 lakh, while 82 scorers contributed their day’s pay aggregating to an amount of Rs 77,420,” CAB stated.

Dipak Singh, the representative of Mohammedan Sporting Club at the CAB has also donated Rs 2 lakh to the Relief Fund. Former Women’s Test Player Mithu Mukherjee has also contributed Rs 25,000. Even, the Coach of Bengal Women’s U23 team Jayanta Ghosh Dastidar would contribute Rs 10,000 as well.

The affiliated units of CAB, White Border Club and Vijay Sports Club have also announced a donation of Rs 50,000 each. Uttar Pally Milan Sangha, Suburban Club and Rangers Club would also give Rs 25,000 each for the fight against pandemic coronavirus. Even the District Sports Associations (DSA), Coochbehar DSA has also said to donate Rs. 10,000 to the State Relief Fund as well.

As all the sporting events have postponed amid the COVID-19, the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League 2020 is likely to be cancelled due to the situation surrounding COVID-19, the novel coronavirus pandemic in India, as per the report in The Indian Express. T
