A tragic incident in Nagpur has claimed the life of 17-year-old aspiring cricketer Aditi Moreshwar Chaukande, with preliminary police findings suggesting that she was upset after missing out on selection in the recent Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) squad. The young player, originally from Akola, had been living in Nagpur with her mother for the past two years while training to build a future in professional cricket.

Aditi was practising at Surve Cricket Academy and had been working hard toward a career in the sport. According to police, the incident took place around 5:30 am on Wednesday at an apartment near the Jain Temple in the Laxminagar area of Nagpur. Family members found her inside the house and immediately alerted the police.

Investigators said a note recovered from the spot indicated that she was distressed over not being selected in the VCA process. The note reportedly expressed her disappointment at the outcome, while also addressing her brother, who is also a cricketer.

Police Inspector Chetan Chouhan of Bajaj Nagar Police Station confirmed that Aditi and her brother were both involved in cricket and that her brother had recently been selected for the VCA side.

“The incident took place yesterday at around 5:30 am under the jurisdiction of Bajajnagar police station. Seventeen-year-old Aditi Moreshwar Chaukhande, a resident of the area near Lakshminagar Jain Temple, lived with her mother and brother. Her brother had gone out for two to three days. Both siblings were cricket players, and her brother had recently been selected for VCA,” Chetan Chouhan told ANI.

He added that Aditi had been pursuing cricket for the last two years and was deeply focused on earning selection. When her mother woke up and found her hanging in the kitchen, she raised the alarm and rushed her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

“A suicide note was recovered from the spot. In the note addressed to her brother, she wrote that although she could not get selected, he had been chosen and should continue playing well,” Chouhan said.

The case has left the local cricket community in shock, highlighting the intense emotional pressure faced by young athletes chasing selection and success.
