Team India witnessed a forgettable outing in the opening game of the three-match series against Australia at the PCA stadium in Mohali. The host suffered a loss by 4 wickets with 4 balls to spare despite the fact that they had to defend a huge total of 208 runs. The defeat has raised quite a few questions for the Men in Blue ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in October.
After losing their last two matches in Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma and his men were expected to make a strong comeback back to gain confidence and rhythm ahead of the marquee event. However, that wasn’t the case as they put down their swords for the current T20 World Champions.

Despite scoring at a brisk pace while batting, Team India failed to seal the win as their bowlers kept on leaking runs at an alarming rate. Apart from Axar Patel, none of the Indian bowlers managed to contain the flow of runs against the Aussie batters. Rohit Sharma might opt to make some changes in the bowling line-up -led side want to make a comeback, they have to make some changes.
In this article, we look at three changes that Team India should make for the second T20I against Australia:
#1 Ravichandran Ashwin to replace Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal conceded 42 runs in just 3.2 overs, taking the wicket of Tim David when the match was almost over. Though he has been doing pretty well for quite some time now, he has been expensive in the T20Is in recent times. He can be replaced by Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been pretty economical, and it will allow India to build pressure on the opposition. Ashwin is far more experienced and has more variations under his armory, which could be useful at different stages of the game.
#2 Deepak Chahar to replace Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been criticized for his death bowling for quite some time now even in the game against Australia, he gave away 16 runs in the 19th over and ended up conceding 52 off his four overs. Being a veteran bowler, the Indian team expect him to deliver in crunch situations. However, he is failing to execute his plans, which is not a good sign going into the T20 World Cup. Deepak Chahar can be brought in to test his performance. He has similar abilities and can come in handy with the bat as well.
#3 Jasprit Bumrah to replace Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav made a comeback to the T20I side after quite some time but in his first over itself, he conceded 16 runs. Despite picking 2 wickets, he kept on conceding runs. Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, is expected to be available for selection for the second T20I. Hence, it’s a no-brainer that Bumrah will be replacing Yadav. The Indian team will hope that Bumrah finds his rhythm as soon as possible, with the World Cup approaching.
