After posting 600-10 in 133.1 overs on the board in the first innings, India drew first blood in the second over itself. Captain Virat Kohli would not have asked for a better start from his bowlers. Umesh Yadav found Dimuth Karunaratne wanting in front of the stumps with his fifth delivery to give Sri Lanka the first blow.

Upul Tharanga and debutant Danushka Gunathilaka, then, struck a flurry of boundaries in reply. The Sri Lankan total crossed 50 in the 11th over. On the first delivery of the 13th over, Tharanga struck another boundary off Yadav. The next one was caressed through the extra-cover region for another four.

It was here, when Indian captain Virat Kohli, showed signs of anger and disappointment. He was chasing the ball to the boundary but failed to stop it by a big margin. Just when the ball boy was about to pick the ball, Kohli kicked it.

With the opposition batsmen, especially Tharanga, playing in such a fashion, one tends to show such emotion. However, Kohli would be relieved with how things proceeded in the final session. India managed to grab five Sri Lankan wickets by stumps on Day 2. Having scored 154-5 in 44 overs, the home team is 446 runs behind. With Asela Gunaratne out for the series, they are effectively 154-6, something which would please Kohli and India all the more.
