5 Sri Lanka Players Decide Not Take Part In India Series?

Virat Kohli and his men are currently in the UK for an important assignment as they will be locking horns with Joe Root and his men in the five-match Test series. The first Test match is scheduled to be commencing at Trent Bridge on August 4. On the other hand, the BCCI had already sent the second-string Indian team to their neighboring country, Sri Lanka. India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the three ODIs followed by as many T20Is.

The brief tour will see young Indian cricketers showcasing their mettle. It is the right time for the young Indian players to express themselves and justify their selection right. The already proven local talents earned a call-up to the Indian team. While the decision to send India’s B team was worth applauding considering the pool of talents available in India, this move didn’t go well with former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga.

Arjuna Ranatunga criticized Sri Lanka Cricket for hosting a “second-string” Indian team for a limited-overs series as he feels that it is an insult to the island nation. Meanwhile, as many as 5 Sri Lankan players have refused to play against India. The 5 Sri Lanka cricketers have stirred a massive controversy ahead of the upcoming tour. Some of the reports have also suggested that there has been a contract dispute between the Sri Lankan Cricket Board and the players.

Five cricketers have refused to sign the contract for the tour and apart from that, five players also refused to play in the practice game against India. The players are none other than Lasith Embuldenia, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, Ashen Bandara, and Kasun Rajitha.

Earlier, the SLC warned these aforementioned cricketers to sign a contract and enter the bio bubble. However, these players didn’t pay attention to the board as they had no intention of signing the contract. Sri Lanka Cricket Board CEO Ashley D’Silva added that these players could be taken into consideration for the series against India if they signed the contract. All teh matches of the India series will be played at R Premadasa international cricket stadium.
