At Dambulla, Australia needed 56 runs in a similar number of deliveries, with 6 wickets left. Andrew Symonds and Adam Gilchrist were cruising towards victory when disaster struck. A ball took the inside edge of Symonds’s bat and gone on to the pads, and the appeal went up and so did the umpire’s finger. Symonds started to walk, and when the umpires checked in with Marvan Attapattu if they could recall him, which was completely up to the Captain’s choice, he agreed immediately. A great day for cricket all round.
