Virat Kohli became the captain of the Indian cricket team for all the formats in January 2017 as his predecessor MS Dhoni decided to hang his boots as skipper from limited overs as well.

Every Indian cricket fan was surprised after hearing Dhoni’s announcement as captain and Kohli became aware of the fact that he had huge boots to fill in. But he has done a great job so far, and his record speaks for himself. Here are 7 things that have changed Kohli’s tenure:

1. New generation of cricketers

Virat Kohli’s appointment was the result of BCCI’s long standing project to provide a better platform for younger cricketers in the team. Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya are the few who have profited from this movement forward.

2. Improved Test record

Virat has always been that kind of a cricketer who will try his best to attain a victory rather than draw the game having not tried. It may lead to a bunch of failures, but Kohli’s approach creates more chances seems to be the most positive one for the Indian team.

3. An attacking Team India

Despite the fact that M Dhoni was a great captain, he started going with a defensive approach towards the end of his tenure. It was looking like he would rather save a game than go all out and try to win it. However, Virat seems to be a pretty attacking captain and will go all out all the time to win.

4. Calmer Virat Kohli

Since Kohli has taken the load of the captaincy of Team India, he is looking to have become more mature.  He has become a complete leader and it seems to be a suitably filling the huge boots of MS Dhoni.

5. Relaxed MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni has become a more relaxed player since Kohli’s appointment as skipper and seems to have a lot more time to focus on his batting and keeping skills. He has once again got the license to play freely and hence can become most destructive finisher in the world.

6. One leader

Prior to Kohli’s appointment as Indian captain of limited overs cricket, there may have been a slight sense of division in the dressing room, seeing as how there were 2 leaders for somewhat the same group of players. Kohli becoming captain in all formats unifies the team and brings the team together.

7. Growth of Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya was brought into the team towards the end of MSD’s supremacy as captain, and Kohli has continued to prepare him and turned him into one of India’s and world cricket’s premier all-rounders.
