Virat Kohli Paid Tribute To The Security Personnel Martyred In Kupwara

The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli paid tribute to the security personnel who lost their lives during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. Two senior army officers – a colonel and a major- were among five security personnel being martyred in action during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, which began on Saturday and continued the late night.

Tweeting about the same, Kohli wrote: “Those who don’t forget their duty in any circumstances are true heroes. Their sacrifices must not be forgotten. I bow my head to the army personnel & the policemen who lost their lives at Handwara and sincerely send my condolences to their families and wish them peace. Jai Hind.”

 

A police officer and two soldiers were also part of the five-member team that came under heavy fire from terrorists.

It was a joint anti-terrorist operation by the armed forces and the J&K Police was carried out in the Handwara area of the district in north Kashmir, about 70 km from capital Srinagar, an official statement said, adding that the five-member team had managed to rescue several civilians. Two terrorists were killed during the joint operation.

However, India is going through a nationwide lockdown. Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus positive patients in India went past 42600 with almost 1400 people losing their lives on Monday, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Almost the entire is in a lockdown due to the scare of the ever-escalating situation concerning the World Health Organisation-recognized pandemic that is the Coronavirus. Everything- schools, colleges, airports, railway stations, gyms, sporting events, movies, offices- have been put under lockdown as the world continues to self-isolate in order to control the pandemic.
