The outbreak of the Corona Virus has brought the world to a standstill. Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate with many international and domestic matches being canceled. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the English Cricket Board has decided to postpone the inaugural edition of their new competition ‘The Hundred’. ECB feels it will not possible to stage the event because of the operational challenges caused by the current social distancing directives.
On Monday, The England and Wales Cricket Board terminated contracts of players set to take part in the Hundred this summer. ‘The Hundred,’ as the name suggests is a 100 ball tournament that was ideated by the English Cricket Board. The ECB has shifted the tournament to 2021 due to the pandemic outbreak of the Corona Virus.

An ECB statement said, “We can confirm that a letter terminating current player contracts has been issued today to all involved. his letter is necessary paperwork to legally update and inform players of the situation, which follows a notification last week around the launch of the new competition being moved to 2021. We are working closely with PCA on a number of options for players regarding next year’s launch.”
The men’s squad for the competition were decided via a player draft back in October 2019. The process of locking down the complete squads for the women’s team is still pending.

The pandemic spread of the COVID-19 Virus has affected more than 46,476 people across India. It is also responsible for taking away more than 1,571 lives. Originated in China, the virus has now affected more than 3,657,932 people taking 252,562 lives.
