Cricket South Africa is still thinking about candidates to take over the responsibility of the national team’s Test captaincy and be the successor of Faf du Plessis. Spinner Keshav Maharaj has expressed his desire to lead South Africa and captain them in all formats.

Faf Du Plessis stepped down as the captain after suffering from three straight series defeats. What’s poorer about it is that South Africa lost two of those series at home. De Kock replaced Faf as the limited-overs captain following a dismissal performance in the ODI World Cup last year.

Keshav Maharaj has established himself as the numero uno spinner for the Proteas in the longest format of the game. The SA spinner also spoke on his desire of lifting the most coveted trophy in his career.

Speaking with sport224, Maharaj said, “I’d like to captain the South African team across all three formats and I want to raise a World Cup trophy with my own hands, as the leader of the side.”

Maharaj also shares the happiness he felt when the spinner was handed the captaincy for a brief period of time.

He added, “I’ve really enjoyed captaincy from the time I’ve been handed the opportunity this past season. I really want to captain the Proteas. It’s been my dream. Not a lot of people in the national setup actually know that. The few who have approached me on the matter know that.”

Maharaj also shared how the team’s cricket association has suggested the spinner to improve his batting skills. The SA selectors suggested improved batting as a road map for Mahraj to be in SA’s limited-overs side.

“I specifically asked what I needed to do to get back into the ODI side and was told that I need to work on my batting and stuff,” he said.
