Anil Kumble Hints at the Possibility of IPL Taking Place

The outbreak of the Corona Virus has halted all the sporting events. The cricketing calendar has suffered because of the same. With everyone stuck indoors, the cricketing fraternity has taken over the internet. Players coaches, pundits, everyone is has been proactive on social media to interact with their fans. Recently, Former India captain and Kings XI Punjab head coach Anil Kumble shared his views on the future of IPL.

Anil Kumble is hopeful of the IPL happening this year. He adds how he is ok with playing the cash-rich tournament inside closed-door without any fans in the stadium. It is highly speculated that BCCI will try and organized the IPL in October. Scheduled to commence on Mach 29, IPL was postponed to April 15 amid the outbreak of Corona Virus. Later on, BCCI was forced to suspend the tournament indefinitely earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’. Kumble said, “Yes we are hopeful and optimistic. There is still a possibility (to hold IPL this year) if we can cram in the schedule.”

The former KIXP coach is also the chairman of ICC’s Cricket Committee. He added,  “If we are going to have a stadium without spectators, then probably have 3 or 4 venues; there’s still a possibility, we are all optimistic.”

Former India batsman VVS Laxman also had his say on the future of India’s premier cricketing event. Laxman reveals how the league can be held in cities with multiple stadiums to reduce traveling.

VVS Laxman said, “Absolutely (there is a chance to hold IPL this year), and also make sure that all the stakeholders have a say. You should identify one venue, which probably has 3 or 4 grounds; if at all you find that kind of a venue because travel is again going to be quite challenging.”

He added, “You don’t know who’s going to be where at the airports so that I’m sure the franchises and the BCCI will be looking into.”
