Former cricketer Dean Jones has provided an interesting opinion on the future of ICC Men’s T-20 World Cup. The Australian suggests the International Cricket Council to shift the World Cup to New Zealand. He believes it would be better as there is a lesser threat of coronavirus in the country.
New Zealand has fought off the threat of the Corona Virus extremely well. The Kiwis are yet to record any positive case of Covid-19 in the country in the last 11 days. It has prompted Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to ease the lockdown and allow the country to return back to normal life soon.

Looking at the current situation, Jones, therefore, wondered whether the T20 World Cup could be moved to New Zealand. India had hosted the last edition in 2016 which was won by the West Indies.
“Jacinda Ardern said NZ could move to alert level 1 next week, which means all social distancing measures and curbs on mass gatherings will be lifted, she said. Maybe play the T20 WC there? #justathought,” Jones tweeted.

Jones also mentioned, “Well it’s a world event. There would be stringent calls and measures. All teams etc.. quarantined .. tested.. all put in pods. it could happen if they wanted it.”

Earlier, Cricket Australia chief Kevin Roberts had commented on the prospect of the Twenty20 World Cup. He had revealed how scheduling the event in October-November window was is “very high risk” due to the coronavirus.
Jones agreed with backed Roberts’s statement and said that there is no chance Australia can host ICC T20 WC in 2020. He said, “T20 World Cup isn’t going to happen in Australia this year for a lot of reasons.”

He went on to add, “Firstly, Cricket Australia has retrenched a lot of people. So, when you have 16 teams here, and 30-40 people per team including staff, players, and administrators, you won’t be able to do it. ”
“Especially with the cover restrictions being very stringent here in Australia. And the host country also doesn’t not make much money by hosting a World Cup,” he said.
