The legendary Indian cricketers, Sunil Gavaskar has said there will be a degree of fear in the minds of players when cricket resumes even in bio-secure environments due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. During a chat with India Today, Gavaskar, speaking at Salaam Cricket 2020, said it’s important players trust each other when playing in bio-secure environments and testing the players before the matches will help them.

Talking about the same, Gavaskar explained, “All players will be scared before the matches but if they are tested well before they will be relieved. If there is trust between everybody it will be helpful but if bowlers and fielders start playing with masks on then I won’t be able to watch the game. But everybody will be a bit scared whenever the game resumes.”

Meanwhile, Gavaskar feels that the upcoming Test series between West Indies and England will be crucial as the entire world will be watching and understanding how cricket is going to be played in the times of the Covid-19 crisis. In a historic series, West Indies will play 3 Tests in bio-secure environments in Southampton and Manchester in July.

The batting legend said he does not like watching video footage of his own playing days because he felt the game used to be boring in his time. However, Gavaskar said the modern game is a different story.

Gavaskar explained, “I never watch my old matches because I am not interested. If someone sends me a short clip, then yes. I think cricket is very boring and I watch what I do because of my job (as a commentator) but cricket these days is very entertaining. Modern-day cricket is very entertaining and different from our times.”
