Exactly 23 years ago, former India captain, Ajay Jadeja, scored his maiden ODI hundred, 104 (126), with the help of four fours & three sixes against West Indies at Cuttack. Jadeja, who made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at Mackay in 1992, achieved this feat in his 32nd match.

It came during the fourth ODI of West Indies tour of India in 1994. Having lost the third ODI at Visakhapatnam by 4 runs, the then West Indies’ captain, Courtney Walsh, won the toss and chose to bat at Cuttack. The ended up scoring 251-9 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. Brian Lara was the top-scorer for the visitors as he scored 89 (106) with the help of eight fours and a six.

With bowling figures of 10-0-43-3, Anil Kumble was the pick of the Indian bowlers. He was well supported by Jadeja and Chetan Sharma, who picked up two and one wicket respectively.

For India, Jadeja and Sachin Tendulkar (88) opened the batting and posted a match-winning 176-run partnership. Jadeja was the second Indian wicket to fall at 2-222. Vinod Kambli, who came in to bat at No. 3, scored an unbeaten 40 (35), with the help of two fours.
