A lot of controversies were ignited when the BCCI announced the Sunil Joshi-led selection committee-named squads to leave for Australia following the IPL. With the exclusion of Rohit Sharma in the three squads, a huge confusion started across the entire fraternity including the fans. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals pacer Ishant Sharma was also excluded from the squads.

As questions started to spread like wildfire, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has often been seen telling that Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma are being closely monitored and also claimed that Ishant will be for the Tests. However, as of November 9, BCCI released its updated squads which rested Rohit in the LOI squads but named him in the Test team.

Former chairman of selectors, Dilip Vengsarkar is unhappy with Ganguly taking up the selectors’ duty of speaking about players’ selections. AS per the quotes in TOI, Vengasarkar said, “It’s quite astonishing to see the Ganguly wearing so many hats as he speaks on behalf of the supposedly appointed chairman of selectors, Sunil Joshi, as why ‘X’ was dropped and ‘Y’ was not selected and why ‘Z’ was not considered, besides how somebody is still not fit.”

He further added, “When the IPL dates and venues were being discussed and organized, he was speaking on behalf of the IPL chairman.  Is he undermining their credentials? Or does he feel he knows more than the others? I always believed the game should be run by former cricketers and was expecting a lot from Ganguly. However, whatever I have seen so far is beginning to change my mind.”

Incidentally, the MI skipper had missed four IPL 2020 games due to a hamstring injury and was not included in the Australia tour. However, Rohit made a comeback for MI in their league stage clash against SRH, on November 3. The entire row of confusion has been criticized by Vengsarkar.

Talking about Rohit, Vengasarkar said, “Rohit surprisingly sees himself being dropped from the Indian team for the tour because the BCCI physio has ruled him out due to hamstring injury. How did the MI physio declare Rohit fit to play in the IPL? Why is there a discrepancy in the reports of two physios? If Rohit joins the team and Virat Kohli is not available for the last two Tests, Ajinkya Rahane, the already appointed vice-captain for the longer format, will have to lead the side.”

India and Australia players, who are featuring in the IPL, are set to fly down under a day after the IPL 2020 final on November 10, in Dubai.
