Legendary Australian leg-spinner, Shane Warne reckons that the Indian chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav should get a chance in the playing XI ahead of experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, in case Ravindra Jadeja fails to feature in the Day-Night Test in Adelaide.
In an exclusive interview with Sports Tak, Warne opined that the conditions in Australia favor Kuldeep more than someone like Ashwin. While Kuldeep has taken 6 wickets in his 1 Test Down Under, Ashwin has scalped 27 wickets from 7 Test matches in Australia.
During the chat, Warne had said, “India won their first-ever Test series two years ago because of their fast bowlers and how their batsmen face the fast bowlers. So, I don’t think that 4 pace attack will work, I think you need that variety in your attack. I would say Jadeja. Kuldeep Yadav is fantastic. I love watching Kuldeep bowl.”

While talking to the Senior Executive Editor of India Today, Shane Warne said, “The Australia conditions suits Kuldeep Yadav more than Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin has really struggled in Australia and has not done well here. Kuldeep Yadav has done really well. In case (injured) Jadeja is out, I will play Kuldeep Yadav. I will have three quicks and a spinner. I will definitely pick Kuldeep ahead of Ashwin.”
Further, answering a query from former India spinner Ramesh Powar on the success of Nathan Lyon in Test matches in Australia, Warne opined that the latter’s change in pace is the reason of his success. Tests cricket’s second-highest wicket-taker added that Indian spinners bowl “a bit too fast”. Also, Shane Warne stated that Nathan Lyon gets very good support from the three quality pacers in the playing XI.
During the course of the interview, Warne also expressed that he would like to see the young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant bat at the 7th position instead of his senior teammate Wriddhiman Saha. Pant, had managed to amass a flamboyant ton in the Pink-ball practice match, while Saha departed for a 22-ball duck.

Warne elaborated, “I think I will play Rishabh Pant at number 7. He is such a dangerous batsman. Saha is a great gloves-man but I think Rishabh Pant with his batting, I will have him at seven and then 4 bowlers.”
