We would have never ever, not even in our wildest dreams, thought of writing a sequel of ‘Hattrick is the new trick!’ on the same day. Such has been a day in the Indian Premier League – the first of its kind. In the last nine years of IPL, only 14 hattricks were put in writing. A fantastic Friday has seen the tally to rise up by two numbers.
If West Indies’ Samuel Badree was the masterstroke in the evening, Australia’s Andrew Tye was not far behind in the second match. In the second match of the day between Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant, Andrew Tye (who made his IPL debut today) shook hands on his second hattrick of T20 career. He taken one for Brisbane Heat earlier this year.
Having bowled his first three overs for 13 runs and two wickets, Tye had already impressed one and all. His captain in Suresh Raina called him to bowl the ultimate over of the innings. On the first ball, Ankit Sharma got underneath a full delivery, only to send it to the high skies. Brendon McCullum, who was fielding at long-on, judged the catch to perfection.
Having changed the strike, Manoj Tiwary was at the striker’s end now. He flicked a slower delivery to straight to Ishan Kishan at deep square leg, who was got hold of a quality catch. Shardul Thakur was on strike on the hattrick ball. He was completely hoodwinked by another slow delivery bowled by Tye, only to find his stumps disturbed. Tye was also successful in inscribing the first five-wicket haul of IPL 10. He ended up with figures of 4-0-17-5.
