The last time when India registered a win over Australia in their own backyard, the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner was declared as the ‘helping factor’. India is on their tour down under and India is touring Down Under again and this time Steve Smith, David Warner, and Australia’s latest batting sensation Marnus Labuschagne are in the squad. Apart from an injured Warner, the other two have featured in both the starting two Tests but the hosts are still to score 200 runs in a single innings.

Australian batting failed more often than not

Tons of runs were expected from the bat of Steve Smith but off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has got the better of him so far. On -Monday, Smith was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. On the other hand, Marnus Labuschagne has been consistently failing to convert his starts, while Travis Head is finding it hard to get into the mix of things. The issue is alarming and has successfully gained the attention of legendary Australia fast bowler, Glenn McGrath.

McGrath has said that there were “question marks on quite a few players”. He also did not shy away from talking about the flop shows of Australia’s most talented batsman Steve Smith.

During a chat on Sony Sports, Glenn McGrath said, “It is a concern, it has been a concern for a /little while now. If you see this series as a whole, the Australian batting line up, there has been a question around it even before this series. It was only one stint in Adelaide which turned tide in their favour and they won that game.”

He further added, “There are a lot of question marks on quite a few players and the player which everyone was looking to see in Steve Smith has only scored 10 runs I think. He hasn’t fired yet, there are quite a few concerns in the batting line up, the bowler are doing their job again, so what can you say.”
