Exactly 12 years ago, Yuvraj Singh scored his fifth ODI hundred against South Africa at Hyderabad. The reason why it was one of his better hundreds was the fact that India needed a knock from him badly in this match.

It was the first ODI of South Africa’s tour of India in 2005. Having won the toss, Graeme Smith, the then South African captain, asked the home team to bat first. India were reduced to 5-35 in the 12th over. Yuvraj came in to bat at 3-5 in the fifth over, when Sachin Tendulkar (2) was out caught behind off the bowling of Shaun Pollock.

Yuvraj found some respite in Irfan Pathan (46) as the duo stitched a 75-run partnership. He completed his half-century in the 32nd over. He finally got out on the last delivery of the 48th over and ended up scoring 103 (122) with the help of 10 fours and three sixes.
