Current chairman of the Indian selection committee, MSK Prasad, had represented India in six Test matches and 17 ODIs during 1998-2000. His career-best ODI performance came during the final of LG Cup against South Africa at Nairobi in 1999.

Having won the toss, Ajay Jadeja, the then Indian captain, elected to field first against the Proteas. South Africa were reduced to 18-3 in the 11th over by the Indian new-ball bowling pair. From that point, it was Herschelle Gibbs’ 84 (124), including six fours and four sixes, which guided South Africa 235-9 in 50 overs. With bowling figures of 8-0-34-3, right-arm off-spin bowler, Vijay Bhardwaj, was the pick of the bowlers for India.

Allan Dawson and Shaun Pollock removed the Indian openers by the ninth over. Coming in to bat at No. 4, Prasad scored 63 (90) with the help of six fours. With fellow batsmen failing to convert their starts into substantial innings, India were eventually all out on 209 in 47.3 overs.
