During the final of the Coca-Cola Champions Trophy in 2000 at Sharjah, Sri Lanka demolished India as they registered a mammoth 245-run win to win the title. Chaminda Vaas’ maiden ODI five-wicket haul had done the major damage to the Indian batting line-up.

Having won the last league match against the same opposition by 68 runs, Sanath Jayasuriya, the then Sri Lankan captain had won the toss and chose to bat. Leading from the front, Jayasuriya scored his ninth ODI hundred and career-best score of 189 (161), including 21 fours and four sixes.

The Lankans ended up scoring 299-5 in 50 overs. For India, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Joshi and Zaheer Khan had picked up a wicket apiece.

The Indian batsmen never really got off to a start they were looking for. The detriment caused by the Sri Lankan bowlers was to the extent that India ended up scoring 54-10 in 26.3 overs. Robin Singh (11), who came in to bat at No. 6, was the only batsman to score in the double digits. Vaas ended up with figures of 9.3-1-14-5.
