Former India player turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has lashed out at Sunrisers Hyderabad for their team selection in Saturday’s match against the two-time defending champions Mumbai Indians in Chennai as well. He said that SRH had to lose as they included three young players – Abhishek Sharma, Virat Singh and Abdul Samad in their playing XI.

“Sorry to say, but anyone that picks Abhishek Sharma, Virat Singh and Abdul Samad all together in one playing XI does not deserve to win,” Manjrekar tweeted.

After successfully restricting Mumbai Indians to 150, SunRisers Hyderabad openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow got off to a flying start but their middle-order woes cost them the win as well. Manish Pandey (2), Virat Singh (11), Abhishek Sharma (2) and Abdul Samad (7) departed without very cheaply.

It is also noteworthy that the 2016 champions didn’t give chance to Kedar Jadhav yet, their key player Kane Williamson is yet to be fit to play a game. Meanwhile, SRH captain David Warner also expressed his unhappiness with his team’s batting performance.

“I don’t know how to take that. Obviously disappointing. Two of us were set but it proves that if you don’t bat deep, you can’t win. If you get a partnership and if there is one person at the end, you can chase it down. These scores are very chase-able, it’s just poor batting. The guys need to play smart cricket in the middle. The bowlers have been fantastic,” he said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Warner also added that he and Bairstow will have to take more responsibility in batting deep in their future matches as well. “You have to learn from mistakes and right now it is just the batsmen. It’s our responsibility at the top to bat deep,” he added.

SRH will next play against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, April 21.
