Delhi Capitals (DC) finally managed to break a streak of losses against Mumbai Indians (MI), winning the game on the back of a sensational four-wicket haul from Amit Mishra, and mature knocks of Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith. Winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to bat, and surprisingly, DC skipper, Rishabh Pant gave the new ball to Marcus Stoinis, and the latter managed to get the wicket of Quinton de Kock. Rohit Sharma made an instant move in the next over by tonking R Ashwin.
MI had a couple of productive overs, with Suryakumar Yadav smashing boundaries Amit Mishra right after Rohit had smacked Rabada for a six down the ground. By the end of the powerplay, MI was looking solid at 55/1, although, failing to capitalize on yet another start, Yadav (24 off 15) edged Avesh Khan behind to end the 58-run stand. Having conceded 10 runs in his first over, Amit Mishra (4/24) turned the tables by dismissed Rohit Sharma (30-ball 44). When Sharma was dismissed, MI was cruising at 76/3 in the 9th over of the innings on a sticky wicket of Chennai.

However, after Rohit’s dismissal, none of the batsmen barring Ishan Kisha manage to stay at the crease for longer as in the span of just a couple of overs, the trio of – Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard – went back to the pavilion to leave MI reeling at 84/6. Ishan Kishan hung himself in and while hopes relied on him along with Jayant Yadav as they took teh team to 137/9. Avesh Khan finished with 2/15 and restrict the Indians to their lowest score of the tournament this year.
In the first over of the chase, Shikhar Dhawan (45 off 42) edged Trent Boult’s delivery straight to Hardik Pandya, who apparently grabbed a blinder, diving at the cover-point, but the third umpire could not find conclusive evidence that the ball was not grassed by Pandya. However, in the next over, Prithvi Shaw punched the ball straight to Jayant Yadav.
Even as the scoring was curtailed, alongside Steve Smith, Dhawan kept on milking the runs. However, The 53-run second-wicket stand was ended when Pollard pinned Smith (33 off 29) lbw to bring Lalit Yadav in the middle. Holding his end up, Dhawan managed to score some smart runs off Rahul Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah will Lalit Yadav playing the second fiddle.

With 48 needed off 36, Dhawan holed out to Krunal after smashing a six and a four off Rahul Chahar. Trying to scoop Bumrah, Rishabh Pant edged the ball to Krunal at fine-leg. Despite not conceding a boundary, bowling a no-ball each to Hetmyer and Yadav meant that Bumrah left Pollard with only five to defend in the last over. For all the tense atmosphere that was built, Hetmyer slapped a four past backward point and sealed a six-wicket win with 5 balls to spare.
