Former New Zealand fast bowler turned renowned commentator, Simon Doull, who was a part of the IPL commentary team, took to Twitter to bid an emotional farewell to the country after the BCCI indefinitely postponed the IPL 2021.
India are currently battling the second wave of the deadly coronavirus and after the tournament got cancelled, overseas players, coaches, commentators and others staffs are leaving the country and Doull was one of them as well. While sharing an emotional post on Twitter, Doull said that he was sorry to leave the country and its people in such a difficult situation, as India has given him so much over the years.
“Dear India, You have given me so much over so many years and I am sorry to be leaving you in such trying times. To those who are suffering my heart go’s out to you and your families. Please do what you can to stay safe. Until next time take care. #india #cricket #love,” Simon Doull tweeted.

Meanwhile, former Australia player turned commentator, Michael Slater has also posted a tweet on Wednesday, praying for the well-being of the country that has been affected by the COVID-19 virus. On the other hand, Slater, who recently lashed out at Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison for denying entry to all the Australian players, commentators and support staff involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, Australia have banned all travellers to enter the country from India until May 15.
Slater tweeted, “Above all my love and prayers to every Indian. You have been nothing but amazing to me every time I’ve been there. Please stay safe.” In his earlier tweets, Slater had slammed his government and said, “If our government cared for the safety of Aussies they would allow us to get home. It’s a disgrace!! Blood on your hands PM.
“How dare you treat us like this. How about you sort out quarantine system. I had government permission to work on the IPL, but I now have government neglect,” Slater again added.

Notably, the IPL 2021 was suspended mid-way on Tuesday after many players and support staff from different IPL teams have been affected by the coronavirus. It started on Monday when two Kolkata Knight Riders players Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have been reported positive and their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore was rescheduled as well.
Later, on Monday, SRH’s Wriddhiman Saha, Delhi Capitals leg-spinner Amit Mishra and CSK bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and batting coach Mike Hussey have all returned positive. This led the BCCI and IPL’s governing council to do an emergency meeting and take the decision to postpone the IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect as well.
